Running in odd light and a bit o’ rain

Filed under: Running Log — Starre at 7:47 pm on Sunday, February 3, 2008

I started my run just before 5:00 to very odd light. The sky was overcast, but it was a light overcast with the occasional really dark clouds. The result was this very odd surreal light. It was certainly light enough to see, but all the cars had their lights on. It also rained a bit, about 2 miles in and on and off for the rest of the run. It did not rain heavy, but enough for me to put my iPod in a ziplock. The rain felt good, but then I did not really get that wet.

It was a good run. I felt pretty good while doing it and didn’t even notice some of the hills, which is good considering it is a pretty hilly run (I did notice the difficult rose hill). I ran the last mile rather fast—I listened to Eminem’s “Lose yourself” for the last 5.5 minutes of the run and I always run fast to that (and it oddly finished perfectly with the end of my run).

Run specifics:
Distance: 7 miles (to Canton run with Kilkeny added on)
Time: 1:17:10 (11:01 splits)
Interval: 5 min run/1 min walk
Body: Right & left leg pronation pain started at the beginning of the run and throughout the first half (mostly right). Minor sciatica issues in my right leg. My calves were sore after stretching. My breathing was great—must have been the fact it was warmer.
Weather: ~60° overcast and a bit of rain on and off
Listening: Escape Pod (EP Flash: “Stuck In An Elevator With Mandy Patinkin”, EP 139, and the 1st part of EP 60, which had technical difficulties) plus some running music. Nice end w/ Eminem’s “Lose yourself”
Stretch: extended double rep stretch (30/20 seconds each). I did two planks (30 seconds each) without any difficulty—a first in a while.
Mileage to date: 31.2
Overall: Good run. The first mile felt a bit hard, but after that I felt good. Finished strong (last mile was probably the fastest) and nice runner high after.
Rating: *****
