Favorite Authors and Favorite Books

Jennifer and I have a great number of books in the house. When I moved to Lubbock three years ago, I had approximately one hundred shelf-feet paperback fiction novels. That does not count my textbooks, engineering books, hardback fiction and nonfiction, nor the miscellaneous magazines, comic books, etc. And then we added all of Jenn's books to the pile and FWOOMP, our apartment fell through the crust and into the mantle. (don't forget about the never-ending supply of PhD related material that migrates Brownian-like around our office)

After giving up the idea that I can afford to possess my own equivalent to Barnes & Noble, I started borrowing (renting, really, given my return habits) books from our excellent Lubbock County Public Library system. The list of books: recently read that I've been keeping is an attempt to track those books that I borrow, read or peruse, and return. I unfortunately don't have an eidetic memory so I need my reminders in case I start reading something and think, "Gosh, this sounds familiar." I did that with a Greg Bear novel recently. Whoops.

Now I find that my recently read books list is huge and unwieldy for anyone who might be looking (ego alert!) for my insight into what books/authors may be worth reading. So I will now keep my list of read books and also one of Favorite Books and Authors.

Editor's Note: I do not claim to be a book critic; I do not claim to be an insightful reader; I do not even claim to be a very deep reader; I do not have a doctorate in literature or teach composition. I do however know what I like and what I enjoyed and that is what I'm communicating here. If you want insight, listen to Fresh Air or read one of the many book reviews by accredited press members.
